Lake Ol’Bolossat is Central Kenya’s only natural freshwater lake, nestled between the Aberdare Mountains and Dundori Ridges. It serves as a vital habitat for diverse bird species and is a critical part of Kenya’s ecosystem.
The lake faces numerous threats, including catchment degradation, siltation, overgrazing, introduction of alien species, fires, encroachment on riparian land, and pollution from agricultural activities and excessive water abstraction.
LOCCOG, formed in 2019, unites over 40 conservation groups from seven wards, totaling more than 4,000 members. We coordinate efforts to mitigate threats, restore habitats, and advocate for the lake’s conservation.
You can volunteer for hands-on conservation activities, attend community events and workshops, become a member, or contribute by donating to support our conservation initiatives.
We work closely with partners and organizations to expand our impact. This collaboration helps us access resources, expertise, and support to further our conservation goals.
Lake Ol’Bolossat Community Conservation Group (LOCCOG) was formed and duly registered as a Community Based
Organization (CBO) on15th October 2019.
